LED Screens vs LCD Screens

We only use LED technology for our larger format screens. You may wonder why this is, so here are the main reasons why we believe it is the best available.

  • A video wall, consisting of several LCD screens, has one significant feature: the black bar where the screens are put together. This bar disrupts the overall picture and divides it into individual small segments. Even a magnificent photo could not fully develop its effects due to the black bars.

  • Size is obviously impressive, a huge advantage of LED cabinets lies in their flexibility. Thus, walls in various forms, especially long and slim or stair-like constructions are possible. LED screens also lend themselves to multiple fixings which gives opportunities to have screens in positions that were once deemed impossible.

  • Internal TV screens as standard are 350cd/m2 our Internal LED are 1000cd/m2 with our external being 5000+

  • LED Screens have a life expectancy of +100,000 hours therefore give a much greater return on investment as they will always outlast Standard TV / Video Wall.

  • If one of the LCD screens of the video walls malfunctioned, the overall picture would be destroyed. The whole segment of the image would stay black or would show another kind of disruption. Afterwards the new screen would have to be calibrated to adapt it to the brightness and colour of the other screens.

    It is very rare for LED walls to malfunction. If a diode of an LED wall broke, meaning one of the many tiny lamps on the wall, it would probably not even be noticed, and it would not disturb the overall image. One could go on as planned. However, in case the malfunction was disturbing, or more than one diode broke, an exchange of the cabinet would be a quick and easy procedure.

  • LED screens have a crucial advantage. Although they also exist of single modules and cabinets, they are not visible for the viewer, as the single cabinets do not show any bars that connect the compartments. Therefore, the image can be viewed as a whole and will leave an impression on the viewer.

How big can we go?

Some of the largest screens we have bespokely built and installed are the 70sqm P5 screen at the Riverside Stadium, home to Durham County Cricket Club and the 90spm screen installed at Tees Works Business Park in Teeside. Once we complete the site visit and analysis, we can give you our recommendation on the size of screen needed for your venue, taking into consideration the viewing requirements.

If the requirement for a large format LED Screen is for specific venue, with specific shape requests our design team, can create and design to meets your needs. Our LED screens are constructed using LED cabinets of varying sizes and mounted on bespoke framework, manufactured by our sister company Smart Fabrication NE.

Resolution and image quality

By utilising our direct manufacturing partnerships we pride ourselves on providing our customers with the best quality resolution for their screens and budget. The viewing quality for an LED Screen at certain distances is governed by pixel pitch, we will advise on this during the consultation period. There are a number of considerations with pitch and image viewing requirements such as external or internal use and viewing distance.

What is pixel pitch?

In our custom made LED screens, each LED is classed as 1 pixel, the pixel pitch is a measurement given in mm and indicates the distance between each LED on the screen, so the lower the number, the closer the LEDs are together and therefore gives a high resolution picture than that of one which has high pixel pitch. With this better quality resolution the screen can therefore be viewed at a much nearer distance, without any compromise on the picture quality.
